#TIU and loving it

Checking in with everyone doing the Tone It Up "Love Your Body Challenge!"

So far, the elliptical has become my go-to for Cardio. I put my iPad up and watch Netflix for 50 minutes. That usually allows me to get 5 miles in.

I have decided to rewatch Mad Men from the beginning, which should cover 64 workouts. Hoda from the "Today Show" gave me the idea.

If you are on the TIU community, feel free to friend me. I like having friends keep me accountable.

Don't forget to post your workouts and accomplishments on twitter and Instagram; Karena and Katrina are giving weekly gifts out to those that share.

Have a great Monday!

#loveyourbody Challenge

I started the Tone it Up "Love Your Body Challenge" yesterday. Karena and Katrina are such inspirations, and their lifestyle is something to look up to. While I'm waiting for SisterT to watch the premier of their show, if it's anything like their website, it is sure to be a hit.

I'm taking their advice, and have started a food & fitness diary. I'm hoping this keeps me accountable. Working out is so much easier during school break. When classes begin, the true test begins.

One of the first challenges is to write down five things you absolutely love about your body.
1. My Eyes for their ability to see and the plethora of makeup techniques to use on them!
2. My Legs for their strength. I've had to move a lot of furniture in my life (both parents like to decorate), and my legs have moved armoires and fridges up and down flights of stairs.
3. My arms for their ability to give hugs.
4. My hands that I use to pet my darling Raquel (cockapoo).
5. My eyebrows; I like the way they frame my face. (Thanks to European Wax Center!)

Cheers to everyone taking part in the #loveyourbody challenge!

2014, the year I begin to blog again!

Happy New Year!
I have missed blogging so much lately, while I never stopped reading my favorites, I did stop writing my own.
I used the many excuses that came up: school, lack of time, Netflix binges, and work.

As the months have passed, I have felt the creativity and enjoyment of writing begin to seep out of me. I realized that I needed to begin writing for fun again: compiling words to entertain and initiate thoughts and conversation.
So as the New Year begins, my number one resolution is to blog again. I will be trying this off my iPad for a few days to see how it goes.
Cheers to those of you who stumble upon TheAlyWay! I wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous year.

Update from Aly

Hi friends!

I know it has been a terribly long time. I hope you all are doing well.
I have finished my first year of law school classes; I can't believe it!
I have exams these next two weeks and an interview tomorrow for a summer internship.

These past two weeks have been quite hectic as my mom found out that her arteries were very clogged. The right was completely blocked, and the left was 80% blocked.
In the past week, she has had two procedures to place stents in her arteries.
She feels SO much better, and I thank God that she had a check up notifying her of these issues.

If you have a history of heart disease, please make sure to keep track of your heart health.

My mom, sister, and I are now going to become more proactive with the American Heart Association. To learn more about your risks and how to maintain heart health, please check out their website: GoRed

Y'all hug your mommas!

Boston, I am praying for you.

Prayers for Boston

God's Angels guard and keep you

All the way that you must travel

Till earth's days are past

When blossoms fade and

Time is fleeting fast

In times of purest joy

Or pain and fear

God's Angels guard

And keep you safe.

Guest Blogger - Kaki from Warby Parker ~ Vintage Trends

Today, we have a lovely guest blogger
from Warby Parker, Kaki!

How to Get the Trendy Vintage Look This Season!

Are you feeling nostalgic about fashions of yesteryear? Try vintage! It’s more affordable and trendy. Everyone loves a look that is different but still has a feel of elegance and sophistication. Try these suggestions when you are ready to plunge into the vintage fashion world!

Try Trendy Vintage Clothing!

When you are selecting trendy vintage clothing, you have to be aware of the latest trends in vintage.  Right now, I am most impressed with the new floral and solid trouser pants paired with solid or polka dot blouses. The look is most impressive when the material is sheer or high quality and has embellishments such as ruffles or large buttons to make the look more dramatic. When the look is well selected, the compliments will roll in and confidence levels will go through the roof!

Incorporate Trendy Vintage Accessories!

Incorporate trendy vintage accessories to make these outfits into your own personal creations. If you don’t know what vintage accessories are like, let me make some recommendations. Personally, I like the colored gemstone broaches that are paired with collared shirts, scarves, or blazers. The pearl accessories aren’t half bad either. Pearl pendants and pearl necklaces can make a vintage ensemble appear elegant and sophisticated.

Your vintage look can be taken to the next level when you incorporate accessories like the ones I have mentioned, but you cannot forget eyewear. Sunglasses and eyeglasses should be chosen from Warby Parker’s Hayworth Collection to complement your vintage look! The selections range in color and style; so, you’re sure to find the perfect eyewear to match your vintage ensemble!

Indulge in the Vintage Lifestyle!

Have you ever experienced the vintage lifestyle? Just think art deco and intermingle some of your vintage favorites, and you’ll be living the vintage lifestyle. Many people are embracing this new lifestyle and find it refreshing when compared to others.

Get in Tune With Today’s Trends! Try Vintage!

If you want to get in tune with today’s trends, you should try the vintage look! The vintage look has grown in popularity and is quite attractive on people. You’ll be amazed of the ensembles you create!

Thank you Kaki for contributing to TheAlyWay!

Warby Parker is an incredible eyewear company that is beyond fabulous both inside and out... their fashionable eyewear is just one component of this "do good" company, for every pair of eyeglasses sold they ensure someone who cannot afford eyewear gets a free pair of glasses.

Here are my favorite Women's Sunglasses Styles... You can find them by clicking here!

(love, love, LOVE!)

And for prescription glasses...

I just adore the Hayworth Collection, with the Edgeworth stealing the show!

One of the best "wearers" of Vintage, in my opinion, is Emmy Rossum from Shameless (current favorite show). Here are some pictures of her donning the Vintage trends...

Those retro glasses are calling my name...

She really knows how to pull off the red lip!

I hope you all enjoyed today's post! If you are interested in guest blogging on TheAlyWay, feel free to contact me at I'd love to hear what others are talking about in the world of fashion, makeup, and fitness.

Have a great Wednesday friends!
